Have you ever wondered what happens to the fabulous jewelry pieces worn in movies? Many of the famous gems from Hollywood's Golden Age reside in a warehouse in Burbank, CA. The warehouse is the former studio of Joseff of Hollywood, jewelry maker to the biggest Golden Era movie stars.
Here's a small sample of the treasures it holds.
This spectacular bib necklace was worn by Ona Munson in the 1941 Shanghai Gesture.
The nine-strand faux pearl necklace on the left was worn by Bette Davis in the 1939 film The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex and the choker on the right was made for Greta Garbo to wear in the 1936 movie Camille. She refused to wear it because it was uncomfortable so it ended up on the cutting room floor but it rests here among the other famous big screen jewels.
Grace Kelly wore these Joseff of Hollywood chandelier earrings in 1956's High Society.
The 1939 classic Gone With The Wind is represented, too, with Rhett Butler's cigar case and belt buckle and Scarlett's beautiful necklace.
In the 1930's and 40's, Joseff was supplying over 90 percent of jewelry in movies and his company made a major impact on Hollywood and fashion.
